GTA 6 is taking you back to Vice City, but this time it looks way different from what you might remember. If you played the 2002 version, you know Vice City was all about that 1980s vibe with neon lights and retro cars. This new version is set in modern times, and it's bigger than ever before. You'll explore Vice City and a bunch of other cool locations around the fictional state of Leonida.
GTA 6 Main Setting: Vice City
Vice City is the main city in GTA 6, where you will be spending most of your time. It's based on Miami, Florida, and sits right on the coast with gorgeous beaches and a big skyline. The developers at Rockstar Games describe it as capturing "the glamour, hustle, and greed of America" all in one city. Even though we're a long way from the 1980s, Vice City is still called the sun and fun capital of America.

The motto for Vice City is "Everything in Excess," which tells you exactly what kind of place this is. People here live large and aren't afraid to show it. You'll find all sorts of neighborhoods here. There's Ocean Beach with its pastel-colored art deco hotels and bright white sand beaches that look amazing and Little Cuba, that has busy bakeries where you can probably grab some authentic food.

You can also check out the Tisha-Wocka flea market where people sell bootleg brands and knockoff goods. The VC Port (also called PortViceCity) is the cruise ship capital of the world. That means lots of tourists and probably opportunities for causing chaos or making money in the game.

Then, you can also go to Vice Beach, which sits on barrier islands that separate it from the Vice City mainland. It looks like a beach resort area with hotels, clubs, and all the tourist attractions.
The State of Leonida in GTA 6
Vice City isn't the only place you'll explore. The whole state of Leonida is your playground. Leonida is basically Florida with a different name, and it has a motto that says "The Goodtime State." The name comes from a Spanish explorer named Juan Ponce de León who first explored Florida.
Leonida has several counties you can visit:
- Vice-Dale County (where Vice City and Vice Beach are)
- Kelly County
- Leonard County
- Ambrosia County
- Mariana County
Other Major Locations in GTA 6
Here are all the major locations that you can visit in GTA 6:
Leonida Keys

The Leonida Keys are based on the Florida Keys, those tropical islands connected by long bridges. You will see that in this area, the dress code is casual, but the bars are pretty loaded. Life here is laid-back and easy compared to the chaos of Vice City.
You can get your buzz on and relax in a deck chair, but watch out, because you're right on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in all of America. This probably means sharks, pirates, or maybe drug smugglers actually use the ocean routes. Either way, it won't be boring.
Grassrivers

Grassrivers is the swampy area based on the Florida Everglades. Basically, it's a huge wild area that nobody has been able to control or develop.
You never know what's hiding beneath the surface here. The alligators are the most famous thing people think about (I mean, just look at the image above!), but there must be far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries inside the mangrove forests. You might find dangerous wildlife, hidden criminals, or maybe even supernatural stuff based on Florida swamp legends.
Port Gellhorn

Port Gellhorn is located in Kelly County and it is Leonida's forgotten coast. It's basically a tourist town that's seen better days and nobody visits anymore.
The place has cheap motels, shut-down attractions, and empty strip malls everywhere. But there's a new economy thriving here now, and it's fueled by malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks. So, this is probably where desperate people and criminals hang out.
Ambrosia

Ambrosia sits in the heart of Leonida in Ambrosia County. Rockstar Games describe this place as a spot where the battle for the health and wealth of Leonida begins, which sounds pretty serious.
This is where American industry and old-school values still rule, no matter what it costs the people or environment. The Allied Crystal sugar refinery is the main employer and gives people jobs. Meanwhile, the local biker gang provides almost everything else. That probably means drugs, weapons, protection, and all the illegal stuff the factory won't touch. This seems like a place where you'll have to pick sides between corporate power and outlaw bikers.
Mount Kalaga National Park

Mount Kalaga is a national landmark up against the state's northern border. It's far from the crowded cities.
This area offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails for outdoor activities. But the really interesting part is who lives in the surrounding backwoods. The game mentions "hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals" who live far from the prying eyes of the government.
These people probably don't trust authority and want to be left alone. You might run into conspiracy theorists, doomsday preppers, or maybe even cult members hiding out in these forests.
So to answer the question, GTA 6 is set in Vice City, which is the main city based on Miami. But you also get to explore the entire state of Leonida (Florida), including Vice Beach, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers swamps, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Each location has its own unique vibe, from the glamorous excess of Vice City to the forgotten coast of Port Gellhorn and the wild backwoods of Mount Kalaga. It's basically a whole state full of different environments, people, and activities. You'll have way more to do than just drive around one city this time.
